Northern Beaches bus operator Keolis Downer holds Community Open Day to showcase vintage buses, and the zero-emission future with Custom Denning’s Element model.
Last Saturday on the 20th of May, Keolis Downer welcomed visitors to their Brookvale Bus Depot to give the public a chance to behind-the-scenes of their bus operations.
“We employ around 900 staff across three depots, operating 420+ buses as part of our fleet, with an average of 1.9 million trips per month” said Mark Dunlop the Managing Director at Keolis Downer Northern Beaches.
Custom Denning was invited along to the event to showcase their zero-emission battery electric bus, the Element.
“Keolis Downer will be introducing the Element 2 into our fleet as we go forward and shifting towards a fully zero emission fleet over time,” said Mr Dunlop.
“We will be implementing pantograph technology here for fast charging, because of the compactness of the depot, it’s a very restricted area. It’s exciting times ahead for our industry, and a change from diesel buses that have operated for 100 plus years".
The Element model sat alongside six vintage buses from Sydney Bus Museum with the Mercedes-Benz 0305G, Leyland Worldmaster and Leyland Atlantean double-decker all brought back into service for this special day.
