Element! Australia’s Electric Bus!

The Custom Denning Element Battery Electric Bus (BEV), fully approved on the TfNSW procurement panel in the Zero Emission Bus category, has been setting new records on a daily basis, with the 4 x prototypes in service since November 2020 and returning better than expected efficiencies.

The Element is capable of replacing standard diesel buses immediately across Australia without the need for additional route infrastructure. Trials have proven that due to the high-density output of the solid-state batteries, less energy is required to complete set routes, leading to less energy use and lower charging turnaround, with increased power savings.

The bus is fitted with the Solid-State Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP) batteries which do not require any secondary cooling for operation compared to other lithium ion batteries. These batteries have an expected life of over 10 years and are covered by a 10-year warranty.
The high energy density in LMP batteries allows for reduced weight whilst offering high output with near constant capacity throughout the life of the battery.

With Custom Denning building the bus from start to end, the ability to integrate the chassis and body into one complete structure offers great advantages, combined with stainless-steel frame that has been designed to retain the strength required to accommodate the added weight of the roof mounted batteries. This results in a bus that gives the lowest weight while maintaining the capability of enduring a 25-year life that is expected of a city bus, and meeting all ADR requirements.

Various improvements have been implemented into the production models as a result of the local testing, and local real life operations of the four prototype buses, meaning this is truly designed and built for Australian conditions and Australian operations.

The complete bus is built right here at the St Marys plant creating local jobs, and whilst complying with Australian made accreditation, Custom Denning may have the highest Australian content of any Electric bus currently in the country, making this truly Australia’s Electric Bus.

The Custom Denning Element is now available to order, with production models due for delivery from late July.
