Custom Denning recently hosted a successful open day aimed at recruiting apprentices, reflecting our commitment to developing the next generation of skilled workers in the Australian manufacturing sector.
The event was coordinated by our Managing Director Scott Dunn, Head of Operations Daniel Bale, Work Health and Safety Manager Michael Ross, Human Resource Business Partner Zoie Doolan and Recruitment/Human Resource Coordinator Lilly Rossettin all of whom played crucial roles in ensuring the day proceeded seamlessly.
The open day is designed to provide potential apprentices with insights into Custom Denning’s apprenticeship programs, which combine hands-on experience with mentorship from experienced professionals. Attendees were given the opportunity to tour the facilities and engage directly with current apprentices and staff, thereby gaining a comprehensive understanding of what a career at Custom Denning looks like.
The management team’s collaborative effort was clearly visible throughout the day. Managing Director Scott Dunn emphasised the crucial role of apprenticeships in sustaining the company’s innovative capabilities and fostering local economic growth. He shared his personal journey, recounting how he began working at a young age in his family’s business Dunn-Line, which has left cherished memories of hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for buses.
Head of Operations Daniel Bale focused on the operational elements of the apprenticeship program, explaining how it supports Custom Denning’s strategic goals for producing high-quality buses. Notably, Daniel himself started as an apprentice and has now risen to lead operations.
Workplace Health and Safety Manager Michael Ross emphasised the company's dedication to maintaining a safe working environment. He led discussions on safety protocols that are integral to training new apprentices, ensuring they grasp the importance of workplace safety from their first day.
Human Resource Business Partner Zoie Doolan and Recruitment/Human Resource Coordinator Lilly Rossettin were instrumental in guiding attendees through the application process and addressing questions regarding career development opportunities within Custom Denning. Their efforts ensured that interested candidates left with clear information on how to pursue their apprenticeship applications.
Custom Denning's initiative not only aims to fill apprenticeship positions but also seeks to inspire local youth by providing pathways into rewarding careers in Australian manufacturing. This aligns with broader community goals of fostering job creation and skill development in the region.
The open day demonstrated Custom Denning's dedication to professional development and community engagement, setting a positive benchmark for other businesses in the industry.
