Australian bus manufacturer Custom Denning has been selected to be a supplier for the delivery of four buses to Canberra. The battery electric buses are expected to be in service by November 2023 with the first bus set to arrive in late September.
The news follows the ACT Government plans to fully transition to a zero-emission public transport system by 2040.
“The ACT Government’s announcement is a win for Australian manufacturing and local Australian jobs.” said Scott Dunn Managing Director at Custom Denning. “We are very excited to deliver our brand-new Element 2 model and return to supplying Custom Denning products back to the nation's capital.”
The Element 2 is proudly Australian Made and is an evolution of the Element model which is currently in operation in New South Wales and Victoria. The Element 2 model comprises of a locally designed and manufactured chassis/body with a ZF CeTrax drive motor and lithium-ion batteries.
Prior to the delivery of the new buses, charging equipment will be installed at the Belconnen Depot utilising existing power supply.
